How is zodiac compatibility calculated?

We follow traditional astrology. The angle between two signs sets the base: signs 120° apart (a trine, same element) score highest, then 60° (sextile), the same sign and opposite signs; 90° (square) and 150° (quincunx) score lowest. Elements and modalities then nudge love, passion, communication, trust and friendship up or down.

Which zodiac signs are most compatible?

Signs of the same element (trines) top the chart: fire with fire (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius), earth with earth (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn), air with air (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) and water with water (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces). Fire and air, and earth and water, also go well together.

Does a low score mean we are doomed?

Not at all. Real relationships depend on people, not planets. Squares and quincunxes are traditionally "challenging", which also means interesting. Read the pair page for the strengths of your match.

Is this the same as a birth chart synastry?

No. This compares sun signs only. Full synastry compares whole birth charts (Moon, Venus, Mars and more), which needs exact birth times and places.
